Cooking On A BBQ with Olive Wood Smokin’ Wood Chips

The best BBQ-wood for large BBQs and open fires. A dense wood like olive is a lot more yielding than a softer wood like maple.

Use on BBQ:

Soak a handful of olive wood chips in clear water for 30 minutes. The wet wood chips should be placed directly on the barbecue embers after being drained with a paper towel. It is possible to use a smoker box for both gas and electric barbecues. The food should be placed together on the barbecue after the chips have started to smoke. When cooking long (chicken /roasts), start smoking about 15 minutes before the end.

Uses of Olive Wood Smokin’ Wood Chips

In Malaga, Chiringuitos restaurants make beach barbecues using olive wood and sand-filled boats. Espetos de sardines is a classic dish to cook, and the chef is known as the “Espetero”.

A variety of fish and seafood are also prepared on sand-filled boats. A delicious aroma of fish and seafood gently cooking over smoking olive wood fills the mealtime promenade. Olive wood is not only very suitable for fish, but also for chicken, pork, vegetables, and even fruit because of its light smoky scent!

FAQs

In general, olive wood harvests are smaller than harvests of woods that are more common, such as oak or pine. As a result, olive wood is rarer and therefore more expensive, but the price is well worth it as it produces beautiful wood for cooking and smoking.

There are many advantages to grilling or barbecuing with wood rather than charcoal. You can use all-natural fire starters such as newspaper or Cedar kindling, or simply put wood on the grill and light it on fire.

In the absence of measurable moisture in the wood, there will be little or no smoke production. In order for wood chips to be effective, they need to have some measurable moisture. If chips are labelled as kiln-dried, they may not produce smoke vapour.
